Best Three Reasons Why Celebrities Make Me Mad

imagesGYAQZI94There (see title of my newest post)…I’ve admitted my problem to the world (and the first step of any good program is to admit you have a problem).  Yes, celebrities make me angry.  Not all of them but a lot of them.

The 21st century celebrity differs from celebrities of the past – nowadays we have the ability (thanks to social media sites like Twitter and Facebook) to know everything about them.  Do a quick search of celebs on Twitter – its amazing how many are on and are providing us with views into their world.  Celebrities of the past held a little more mystery and were a lot more private.  As Bob Dylan put it so eloquently – “the times, they are a changing” or have already changed.

The more and more I go through my ‘average’ existence, the more and more celebrities make me mad.  Maybe its because of what they are showing me of their life and realizing that my life will never be like that and unlike them – I will struggle day in and day out with the everyday ritual of life.  Trust me, this is not envy or jealousy (those are deadly sins – I wouldn’t go there) – its more of a growing anger – because celebrities have an immense influence in the world (and on people) and I sometimes which that was used for more good.

These are some of the best three reasons why celebrities make me mad

1.  The amount of money they are paid

2.  The amount of influence they have in society (and with the younger generations)

3.  How they use their money

Firstly, no person is worth a million dollars – that is ludicrous.  Yet some TV actors and actresses (Two and a Half Men, Friends, Everybody Loves Raymond, etc.) are and have been paid that some – per episode for their hit TV shows.   Someone please explain to me how they are worth that…because they are good actors – NO; because they draw in viewers – NO.  There is no actual logical reason for it.  Think of how many people will never see a million dollars in their lifetime – millions and millions of people.  This makes me mad.

They are paid to make appearances; to promote a brand; get expensive gift bags at award shows (for presenting) – LIKE THEY NEED ALL THAT SWAG – why not donate it? or refuse it?  I would like to know if anyone has ever done that before.  Here let’s give rich people stuff they can easily buy themselves!  Great logic…see it makes me mad.

My second reason is around the amount of influence celebrities have in this world.  I’ve blogged before about celebrities but lately this influence has just made me mad.  When I see the attention that Kim Kardashian gets – what has she ever done that is worthwhile.  NOTHING.  Sorry Kim, I’m sure you are lovely as a person but use that for something better.  Give away some of your millions (sorry a lot of your millions); try being a role model for young girls – female empowerment – use the business woman side to influence – not the crop top, bikini selfie pictures to get attention .   I hate to see when young kids can barely name the founding fathers or relevant people in history but they can name you every person’s name on Pretty Little Liars.

Finally, how celebs use their money.  All the pictures I ever see are celebs out spending their money – doing what you ask?  well that is easy – SHOPPING.  No wonder we are a society obsessed with what one another is wearing.  Sure, I know that celebs do provide to charity – but they could be doing so much more.  A $5,000 bag is not a necessity – that $5K could help a lot of people.

Sorry for the rant – but this ‘mad’ needed to be vented.

Best Three Guilty Pleasures

Admit it.  You have one (or two or three in my case).  We all do.  That is ok and one of the reasons why I wanted to share mine.

Wikipedia defines a guilty pleasure as:

A guilty pleasure is something one enjoys and considers pleasurable despite feeling guilt for enjoying it. The “guilt” involved is sometimes simply fear of others discovering one’s lowbrow or otherwise embarrassing tastes, such as campy styles of entertainment. Fashion, video games, music, films, and junk food can be examples of guilty pleasures.

So in the risk of embarrassing myself or not (because I know so people will have the same guilty pleasures as me), here are the best three that I have:

1.  Anything on the CW (I love Reign and The Vampire Diaries) and MTV (Teen Wolf)

2.  Romance Novels (not just ‘Chick Lit’)

3.  Flavored Popcorn

The first thing on my list might not seem like a guilty pleasure to some people – especially tweens, teenagers and people in their early to mid-20s – but for a woman in her early to mid-30s – the CW and MTV don’t seem like the best place to spend my tv time, however I just can’t help myself.  I love the shows.  They are addictive and they have characters that I just love – and they make me keep coming back for more.  Take for instant The Vampire Diaries.  I love the show.  I watch it, I rewatch it, over and over.  I’m a fan of Caroline – not Elena and not Damon (sorry Delena fans) and Klaus – so when he left, you can imagine how sad I was.  I’m just hoping for some crossovers – please don’t ruin the ‘budding’ love story….This is just one show – now I’m into Reign.  Yes, I like history but there is barely any historical fact in this show – except for the names and the timeperiod, otherwise I shouldn’t like it but Ohhh, I love Mary and Francis (and the chemistry).   Teen Wolf is the same as above…I love teh characters and everything about the show…my TV show guilty pleasures.  It makes me smile.

Romance novels.  Yes I read them…a lot.  Not just ‘chick lit’ ones with contemporary heroines and heros but also the historical romance novels where we always have a writer pair a virgin with Duke or an experience man.  The stories are nuts and some of thee most unrealistic plots around.  I know in my head that is ridiculous but I just enjoy reading them anyways.  I’m obsessive about these books – thank good for iBooks and e-readers – there is so much more available now and easily accessible to satisfy my guilty pleasure.

My last guilty pleasure is flavored popcorn.  Its quite embarrassing.  I stuff my face with this stuff.  I love it.  It’s one of my favorite foods.  I especially like the cheesy flavors – white cheddar, or cheesy jalapaneo.  My mouth is just watering writing this.  If you haven’t tried it before – please do, you don’t know what you’re missing.

Best 3 New Fall TV Shows

The Fall TV Season is always an impressive display of television networks ideals of what viewers will want to watch.  Honestly, its amazing all the crap that is actually allowed on TV during the fall season.  These networks are ‘green lighting’ awful shows, really awful shows.  It always makes me wonder whether they test the pilots with focus groups…cause that would be a good idea.

However with all of the awful they shove towards us, there are some shows that really end up being great and become favorites – which is why I wanted to devote a post to those shows (with the hope that others agree and continue watching so that they aren’t cancelled.)  The next three shows have impressed me.  They are different, interesting and not the average show that would be on the networks – seriously how many cop and medical drama can be created.

1.  Sleepy Hollow

2.  Betrayal

3.  Hostages

imagesLet me begin with my favorite show of all this fall season and that is Sleepy Hollow.  I love this show and the actors – great casting job.  It is different and that is what I like with my TV shows.  I’m tired of all the old ones (except Scandal – I will never get tired of Olivia and Fitz).  Most people know the story of Ichabod Crane brought to life by “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” by Washington Irving, and of course the movie starring Johnny Depp.

Tom Mison as Ichabod Crane and Nicole Beharie as Lt. Abbie Mills are fantastic – such a great pairing.  They really make their characters come alive.  The show has it all – drama, comedy, romance, mystery, and thrilling action.  I honestly have not missed one episode and I actually request not to be disturbed when its on.  That is the signs of a good show.  Which is great because Fox just gave it a second season renewal (see article below).

The next best is Betrayal.  This is another show that has taken a concept – a love affair and explored all the drama, intrigue, hurt and betrayal that goes along with it.  You can see it in the characters eyes when they are with their family.  It presents the viewer with a love/hate relationship with the characters committing the betrayal and makes you think about your own values.    Is it wrong?  Could this be love? It will be an interesting season (if this TV show makes it to the end of the season).  Tune in if you haven’t been watching already.  I promise its worth it.

The last TV Show that I’m liking is Hostages starring Toni Collette and Dylan McDermott.  First because I have a huge crush on Dylan McDermott, there is a chance my view is biased.  However, its another show that is different.  The surgeon to the US President is being held hostage, along with her family by Dylan McDermott and his associates.  Its a great premise for the show and did I mention that I love Dylan McDermott.  Check it out.

Best Three Things About Scandal (the tv show)

untitled

For those of you who have not tuned in to Scandal starring Kerry Washington, you are missing one great tv show.  My sister was the one that recommended it to me.  I haven’t been that interested in tv lately, so if I’m going to commit to a show I need to know that it’s worth it.  In comes my sister.  She is great at knowing which shows I like and I have never been disappointed with her advice.  So I decided to download Season 1.  Oh my God!  Let me tell you, it’s been a while since any tv show has truly grabbed my interest and this show did!  I love the concept of the show.  For those that have not tuned in – here its the official description of the show:

Everyone has a secret… and Olivia Pope has dedicated her life to protecting and defending the public images of the nation’s elite and keeping those secrets under wraps. Revered and feared at the same time, Olivia, a former communications director to the President of the United States, left the White House to open her own prominent crisis management firm. She is hoping to start a new chapter in her life—both professionally and personally—but she can’t seem to completely cut ties with her past. Slowly it becomes apparent that her dysfunctional staff, who specialize in fixing other people’s lives, can’t quite fix the ones closest at hand-their own.

Olivia’s accomplished staff, who would follow her anywhere and do whatever it takes to save someone’s reputation, include Harrison Wright, a slick litigator; Huck, hacker extraordinaire; investigator Abby Whelan, don’t let that smile and red hair fool you, she’s as sharp as they come; and Quinn Perkins, the new young woman in the office who is in awe of Olivia, but is initiated in a trial by fire on her very first day on the job.

As Olivia Pope and Associates fights for the reputations and sometimes lives of their clients, Olivia’s former boss, President Fitzgerald Grant, the First Lady Millicent Grant, the President’s Chief of Staff, Cyrus Beene, and the Assistant State Attorney David Rosen are never far from her beat. Her clients aren’t the only ones with secrets, though; surprisingly, she may need to exercise all her damage control skills on her own behalf.

As soon as I was done Season 1, I downloaded Season 2.  When I like something, it always makes it on my best three list and Scandal earns a rightful place.

1.  Olivia and Fitz

2.  The Associates (Huck, Stephen, Harrison, Abby and Quinn)

3.  The Clients

Olivia and Fitz.  There is just something about these two characters that add to this show.  The ‘one minute’ thing is so great.  Just when they look at one another.  Kerry Washington and Tony Goldwyn are amazing actors.  Its true when they say you just can’t help who you fall in love with and with these two that is the truth.  The scene when they’re on the bus and Fitz says that he wished he had met Olivia first…but in reality he is a married man.  Even though I hate to admit it, I’m not for affairs but with these two, you are just routing for them.   There is so much attraction, so much passion and love, I don’t care about the consequences – I just want to see them together so they can be happy!

The Associates.  Each one is interesting and have great stories (and secrets).  They make the show enen more enjoyable, which is always important in a show like this.  They are a family and they know how to get the job done.

The Clients.  On top of the characters and their storylines – there is always the stories of the clients and those are great and again make the show enjoyable and worth watching.

Best Three Reasons Why Movie Studios Need to Rethink Movies

I was planning on going to the movies this weekend so I looked reviews to some of the movies that would be opening this weekend or had already opened in theatres.  That is what I do – I need to read the reviews to see whether the movie is worth seeing or not.  Sometimes that’s not necessary and the preview of the trailer or tv spot is good enough for me or catches my interest.  However this weekend was different.

I know that the Fast and Furious 6 had a huge opening weekend las week and I’m a fan of the movies (really its because I have a huge crush on Paul Walker.  He is so good-looking…but enough with getting side tracked) but didn’t really feel like sitting in a theatre with hundreds of people this weekend so I researched other movies.  Now You See Me was my second choice and after that it was Star Trek.   In the end, I didn’t get to either and that made me think, especially after reading some ‘scathing’ reviews about After Earth, staring Will and Jaden Smith and directed by M. Night Shyamalan.  The critics were harsh (and really funny) – I’ve attached a link to some of the best ones that EW PopWatch (Entertainment Weekly) were highligting.  http://popwatch.ew.com/2013/06/02/after-earth-reviews-m-night-shyamalan/

Anyways this got me on the post for today.  Why are movie studios spending all this money (in the hundreds of millions) for awful movies.  Who makes these decisions?  Could the money not be donated to something more worthwile?

1.  All the ‘bombs’ being release (i.e. After Earth, Hudson Hawk, The Adventures of Pluto Nash, The Alamo, Cutthroat Island)

Cover of "The Adventures of Pluto Nash"

2. Movies need to be entertaining, not dull or boring (sorry Beautiful Creatures – I heard that people got up and left the theatre because the movie was boring)

3.  Remakes (i.e. Footloose) – have movie studios run out of ideas??? Why recreate a classic movie.

My first choice was wasy on this one – there are so many other movies I can list here where millions of dollars were lost.  It’s sad because people starve – that money could have fed them.  Yet studios continue to spend millions and millions of dollars on these types of films.

In the old days, movies didn’t need to cost hundreds of millions and they still were able to entertain.  This can be said for movies today.  Sure, I loved the Avengers and that cost a lot to make but I also liked independent films.

Remakes…I hate them.  I love the original movies.  Why do movie studios need to remake classic movies. For a new generation! No, movies would transcend those generations – i.e. Sixteen Candles (please, please don’t make a remake, it just would be the same).

Best Three Things About Being Home Alone

I’ve always lived with someone.  I have never had the chance to actually have a place all to myself.  So when I get the house to myself, its actually a really great time for me.  I love it.  I love being alone.  I love the solitude.  I love being quiet.  I like that fact that there is no one around me.  That isn’t to say I always want to be alone, its just that when I get these moments, I cherish them.

For me, there are aways a couple of things that makes this time great and that is the reason for tonight’s post.  These are just three of the best but there could have easily been more.

1.  No Schedules

2.  Going Nude (that’s right walking around naked)

3.  Singing and Dancing (like there is no one around – because there isn’t!)

No schedules.  This is simply a dream come true when you are by yourself.  You don’t need to have dinner at a certain time, there is not set time that you need to get up, no set time to do anything.  That is why this is at the top of my list.  I love being able to let go of the structure of life for those precious days by myself and just adopt a freer, less contrictive lifestyle.

I know that it might be cliché about going nude but really that is a time to be one with your birthday suit.  Its not to say you can’t walk around nude with your partner or whoever else you feel comfortable with but it just seems better when you are alone.  To walk around and not try to hide all the flaws you think you have (which you might do with someone else).  Just getting naked.  Its liberating.

My last item on the list was singing and dancing.  This is one that I truly get behind.  I’m lucky because I don’t have close neighbors, so I can blast my music and I do.  Its so loud and I just sing to the songs on my playlist and dance around my house.  Its fun, great exercise and a grea way to cut out the stress.  One of the best songs for this is Part of Me by Katy Perry.  Another good song for this is Sugar, Sugar by The Archies and of course anything by Lady Gaga.
