Best Three Things to do on a Weekend

The weekend.   Aahhh the weekend…The time I look forward to, dread having to give up and dream about throughout the week.  It represents two glorious days in which there is no structure, no routine, no deadlines, no demands, no awkward conversations, no office politics and no dressing up.  The time is mine and I can set my schedule how I want.  I can do what I want and that is how I like it.

I thought about this topic for the post as my weekend was winding down (and I was dreading the start of the work week).  There is just something magical when a person is stripped (methaphorically) of the professional demeanor that we have to have during the week and can just relax and enjoy the weekend.    I think we become different people.  I know that some of my own co-workers wouldn’t recognize me if they saw me on the weekend.

3. Go for a walk – somewhere, anywhere

There is nothing greater than being able to sleep in on a weekend.  I know that as we get older, it seems to be harder.  Our bodies are use to getting up at a certain time (damn that alarm clock!) and that is just awful.  Really, really awful.  So, if you are one of the lucky ones to be able to sleep in…it is just an amazing experience.  I have to say, getting to sleep in and waking up after that sleep, is just divine.

The second thing should be focused on something that makes you happy.  The weekend is your time.  I know for me, I love to read.  Just absolutely love it and that is what I love to do on weekend.  I grab whatever book I am ready, settle down and just read.  Whatever it is you like to do – just do it!  If it’s going to make you happy, why wouldn’t you spend your weekend time on doing it.

As for the last pick, going for a walk is something I encourage.  First it gets you out of the house, second it can take you to great places and third, it keeps you healthy.  I love walking.  Especially on the weekends when I can discover new places such as a park, walking on a beach, window shopping down a busy avenue…the possibilities are endless.

Best Three Ways to Survive the Work Week

As we get closer to the end of the work week and the weekend, I had a few moments today to reflect back on my own work week.  For me, the last three days at work have been awful.  It is just a constant bombardment of things – one after the other, after the other.  Maybe its karma – I’ve always loved my work, loved diving in and getting things done but now (and the last three of my days are evidence of this) I just don’t want to be in my office.  I don’t want to work on some of the projects that I use to love, I just want to be somewhere else.  I know I’m not alone out there – there are probably hundreds, thousands and maybe millions of people that feel the same way as I do.So while I was sitting at my desk (staring up at the ceiling – I’m in a cubicle so no one was watching), I realized that there had to be some positives…there had to be some things that could help me survive the rest of the week and similar weeks that will be in my future (I wish I could say they wouldn’t but I’m a realist) and I was able to come up with three of the best that I would like to share.

1.  A good cup of coffee

2.  YouTube

3.  Earphones (and a good playlist)

My first choice to help me get through a a work week may not surprise a lot of people.  Coffee at the start of my day is essential.  There is just something comforting about that black liquid (with some cream and sugar for me) that just helps calms and comforts me.  I have actually caught myself a few times, closing my eyes and savouring the first taste.  Its great and for me, has a way of getting me through some tough days and weeks.  Thank you coffee!  I salute you (and I wish I could handle more of you in a day but I’m one of those people that need to limit)

Image representing YouTube as depicted in Crun...YouTube – thank you (and thanks to my employer for not blocking you) because you are an integral part of helping me get through the work week.  Why you ask?  Well, its pretty simple.  Do you know how many hilarious things you can find on YouTube.  Who hasn’t seen one of the hundreds of videos of people doing the Harlem Shake.  Other videos such as the guy running into a frozen pool with the thought that the ice would crack – it didnt.  Or when owners tape the crazy things there dogs do!  It makes me laugh, and laughing is one of the best ways to forget about the work (for just a couple of minutes) and the stress and all the things you need to do.

The last way that I know always helps me get through the worst of weeks (or even a normal week) is teh fact that I always have my iPod with me at work.  I put my earphones in and use the playlists I have designed for such weeks and I just listen to the music.  It not only helps me focus and get done what needs to get done, it tunes out all the other things going on around me – the noise, the gossip, the office politics, the ‘pissing’ contests, etc.  It’s a magical tool and one that I would really miss.

Best Three Days of the Week

For a lot of us, the days of the week sometime fly by while others drag on.  That is why today, while out running errands and waiting in line to pay for my groceries, I thought about the topic to this post.  There are certain days of the week that I can’t wait for, while other days are days I dread (we all know the day – starts with M) and that is what I wanted to share.

My picks (and reasoning) for the Best 3…Days of the Week

1.  Sunday

2. Friday

3. Tuesday

Yes, Sunday is my favorite day of the week because its the day that I have set aside in my busy schedule for some ‘down’ time.  This is the day that I usually sleep in (no alarm is ever set on  this day).  Its the day when I can have a full breakfast – eggs, bacon, toast and jam (and actually take the time to eat it all) and the day that I can stay in my pj’s for as long as I’d like.  There are no plans for Sunday – that is one of my self-imposed rules.  I read, I watch tv or a movie.  I catch up on the new. drink lots of coffee, even do some laundry.  Its a great way to spend the day and seems to have a calming effect on me.  It prepares me for my week ahead.  If you don’t take a day for yourself now – think about using your Sunday this way – it honestly is one great day.

As for my second pick, that would have to be Friday.  There is something about the anticipation about the work week ending.  You can even feel it in the air on Fridays – people are friendly, they smile more and make time to talk about their plans for the weekend.  It’s the day that helps get me through the rest of the week.

My third choice may seem strange to some people but for me its simple – its the day after Monday and it means that I got through my least favorite day.
