Best Three Ways to Fight Boredom

images12

Yes, this seems like a pretty funny topic but it’s something that I’ve come across hundreds, even thousands of times in my life.  I get bored.  I get bored with things I’m doing (namely work); bored with people (yes, I’m talking about the lady in the grocery store that needed to rant today at this teenage cashier – she made me bored – so bored, I tuned out and started to daydream in the line); bored of the routine of life – get up, shower, get dressed, have breakfast…I could go on but everyone has experienced this before.

So my time spent daydreaming also helped me with the idea for this post.

Boredom is a real and supposedly there are 5 types of boredom – check out the attached http://www.fastcoexist.com/3022134/there-are-5-types-of-boredom-which-are-you-feeling

So to combat my boredom I wanted to share some of the best ways you can.

1.  The minute you feel boredom creeping up, go to something – anything –  play a game, go for a walk, do the dishes, laundry.

2.  Do something ‘out of the ordinary’ for you

3.  Read

Yes the first thing I put on the list is a surefire way to alleviate boredom.  It takes my mind off the boardroom and gets me thinking and focusing on something else.  Games I find are great for this.  I’ve become obsessed with FarmStory 2.  It keeps me totally involved and I don’t feel bored anymore.  Walking my dogs also helps – just being outside – I’m forced to interact with nature and people.  Yes, even doing dishes – I get the music going and I get the dished done – plus I dance around.  Bye bye boredom.

My second best way is to do something ‘out of the ordinary’ for you as an individual.  For me, that is going to a mall.  I don’t like malls.  I go because there is lots to see.  It keeps me busy and not bored.

As for my last way, this is an old-fashioned way to cure boredom – reading.  Reading lets me escape into the story and consumes me – and I don’t feel bored anymore.  The only thing I caution is that you need to be reading something good otherwise boredom can creep back in.

Hope this helps! Continue reading

Best Three Reasons Why Celebrities Make Me Mad

imagesGYAQZI94There (see title of my newest post)…I’ve admitted my problem to the world (and the first step of any good program is to admit you have a problem).  Yes, celebrities make me angry.  Not all of them but a lot of them.

The 21st century celebrity differs from celebrities of the past – nowadays we have the ability (thanks to social media sites like Twitter and Facebook) to know everything about them.  Do a quick search of celebs on Twitter – its amazing how many are on and are providing us with views into their world.  Celebrities of the past held a little more mystery and were a lot more private.  As Bob Dylan put it so eloquently – “the times, they are a changing” or have already changed.

The more and more I go through my ‘average’ existence, the more and more celebrities make me mad.  Maybe its because of what they are showing me of their life and realizing that my life will never be like that and unlike them – I will struggle day in and day out with the everyday ritual of life.  Trust me, this is not envy or jealousy (those are deadly sins – I wouldn’t go there) – its more of a growing anger – because celebrities have an immense influence in the world (and on people) and I sometimes which that was used for more good.

These are some of the best three reasons why celebrities make me mad

1.  The amount of money they are paid

2.  The amount of influence they have in society (and with the younger generations)

3.  How they use their money

Firstly, no person is worth a million dollars – that is ludicrous.  Yet some TV actors and actresses (Two and a Half Men, Friends, Everybody Loves Raymond, etc.) are and have been paid that some – per episode for their hit TV shows.   Someone please explain to me how they are worth that…because they are good actors – NO; because they draw in viewers – NO.  There is no actual logical reason for it.  Think of how many people will never see a million dollars in their lifetime – millions and millions of people.  This makes me mad.

They are paid to make appearances; to promote a brand; get expensive gift bags at award shows (for presenting) – LIKE THEY NEED ALL THAT SWAG – why not donate it? or refuse it?  I would like to know if anyone has ever done that before.  Here let’s give rich people stuff they can easily buy themselves!  Great logic…see it makes me mad.

My second reason is around the amount of influence celebrities have in this world.  I’ve blogged before about celebrities but lately this influence has just made me mad.  When I see the attention that Kim Kardashian gets – what has she ever done that is worthwhile.  NOTHING.  Sorry Kim, I’m sure you are lovely as a person but use that for something better.  Give away some of your millions (sorry a lot of your millions); try being a role model for young girls – female empowerment – use the business woman side to influence – not the crop top, bikini selfie pictures to get attention .   I hate to see when young kids can barely name the founding fathers or relevant people in history but they can name you every person’s name on Pretty Little Liars.

Finally, how celebs use their money.  All the pictures I ever see are celebs out spending their money – doing what you ask?  well that is easy – SHOPPING.  No wonder we are a society obsessed with what one another is wearing.  Sure, I know that celebs do provide to charity – but they could be doing so much more.  A $5,000 bag is not a necessity – that $5K could help a lot of people.

Sorry for the rant – but this ‘mad’ needed to be vented.

Best Three Things I’m Looking Foward Too!

tipstagram_self8It has been awhile since I’ve blogged.  Life has a way of getting messing with my plans but I’m back and I wanted my first post of 2014 to be about the things that I’m looking forward too in 2014 (and beyond).

2013 was a year of ups and downs. Good things happened (like a trip to Las Vegas and the acceptance of a new job) but also some bad things happen (usually involving house problems) but I’ve persevered – because that is sometimes the only way…to pull up those metaphorical pants and get on with things.

So for the start of 2014, I sat myself down and did a big self-evaluation.  A self-evaluation that looked at all of the aspects of my life and how I can continue or approve upon them…it was also a little soul searching because as the year was winding down – I realized that I had lost touch with it .  No, nothing bad just that I hadn’t been paying it much attention.  Feeding the soul is something that I think gets overlooked in our lives and mine need some TLC.   That is why I did the self-evaluation – I needed to have things to look forward to and to strive for.

So here is my best three:

1.  Volunteering

2. Taking ME time

3.  Starting something new

Volunteering.  Something that I always say I want to do but end up making up so many excuses why I can’t.  Not this year.  This year, I’m looking at volunteering opportunities in my community and going to sign myself up.  I think this is something that not enough people do (and should be).  So many organizations need help.  So the question I asked myself, WHY NOT?  What is actually preventing me from NOT volunteering?  I honestly couldn’t come up with anything so now its on the top of my list to look forward too this year.

Taking capital M-E time.  This is something that I also seem to forgot to do or make excuses not to do.  This doesn’t mean I need to book spa time…no this just means that I need to focus on things that make me happy – that separate me from my the world.  For me, this means a solitary walk, listening to music, reading, playing a video game, doing crafts…it doesn’t cost money…its just for me.   I don’t do this enough and this is something I’m changing and looking forward too.

Starting something new.  If you’re like me, I usually start something but never finish it.  Or I have so many great ideas, I start but again never pursue.  That is changing this year.  This year I’m going to start a novel.  I’m going to start some new craft projects (from start to end).  I’m going to learn computer programming.  I’m not letting anything stand in my way.  No excuses.

Best Three Things that Quiet the Crazy World Around Me

There are some days when the pressures of life (work, finances, relationship troubles) come barreling down at me and all I can think about are the things that I would be doing that would help to quiet the crazy world around me.  These are things that can take my mind off whatever is troubling me and transport me into a mindless state of peace and tranquility.  Where bills, work deadlines, health issues and all the others things that are driving me insane are swept from my mind.  The following are the thing that helo quiet the crazy world around me.

1.  Sitting in front of a fire (whether from a fireplace or camp fire) and staring at the embers of the fire

2. Walking along a deserted beach and listening to the waves crash down

3. Looking at the stars

Looking into a campfire has a way of truly mezmorizing me.  Its amazing that all that I was feeling previously can be shut out and all I see is the burning embers.   Its crazy but true.  My mind simply turns off.  I can think of anything else except the beauty of the fire and the calming soothing effect is has on me.  It makes it very hard to look away, especially when its time to leave and go to sleep.  For me, this is the best way to quiet the crazy world around me.

For me, walking on a deserted beach and hearing the waves crash down along the shore is amazing.  Sometimes they are deafening and that is an amazing thing.  It allows my mind to block everything else and I focus on my walking, my breathing and the breathtaking sound of the waves crashing.  For those that have never been able to experience the ocean and all of its might, I encourage you to travel to one (one day in your life) and you will understand what I am talking about.

As for my last pick,  it’s definitely looking up at the stars. Pleiades Star Cluster

I was lucky enough this summer to have an incredible experience with this.  I was camping in a camp ground that had constructed an outside observation area for star gazing.  It was a cold night but my partner and I made our way there around 10pm at night.  We huddled together, stopped talking and simply looked up…we were there for over 2 hours.  Not a word was said, we simply just looked up at the sky and all the brilliant stars shining in the night sky.  It was an amazing experience and worked to clear my mind of all its stress and complications

Best Three Ways to Relax after a long day

Everyone has had them.  The type of day that seems to drag on, that gets filled with things you didn’t plan and seems to dictate that everything that could go wrong has.  That was the type day that I had today and since I needed to start the ball rolling on my blog, I thought sharing the best three ways to relax after a long day just seemed fitting.

So here is my picks for the best three ways to relax after a hard day:

1.  Wine, Wine, Wine and more Wine

2.  Comfty clothes

3. A good book

wine

Now let me delve into my picks a little more.  As for my first choice (and no I’m not promoting alcohol as a means to erase the day) but if its in reasonable amounts – there is just something soothing about drinking a good red or white wine after a long day.  It goes down easier and takes the edge off all the frustrations that presented themselves during the day.  I don’t particularly have a favorite wine, they are all good.  However I do have a ritual.  I come home, get the wine, use my best glass and sit down (no tv, no distrations) and just sit in silence, finishing that first glass.  Its heaven.

My second pick is usually tied to the first – after that long day, there is nothing more comforting then my comfty clothes.  For me, that includes worn out yoga pants, my old college t-shirt, a hoody and soft comfty socks.  Its great to come home and change into these clothes.  It makes me happy and the long day slowly slips away.

Number three is probably on a lot of people’s best lists.  A good book has a way of taking me away and entertaining me for a good couple of hours.  I leave my surroundings and get caught up in another place, time, character, etc.  Its magical and a great way to relax.
